Was cleaning the bike yesterday and noticed my left crash bar was loose.  Went to tighten it and discovered that the mount was broken in half just below the bolt under the floorboard.  Completely hidden.  Lucky for me a very good friend has a fabrication shop & was able to weld it.  He said steel was sub-par and bent against the grain.  The crack was inevitable and most likely brought on by vibration.  Gotta love those genuine Yami parts made in China.

Anyway, the moral of the story is to keep your eyes open for issues when cleaning.  It's the perfect time to pick up on the little snafu's.

Ah man! Good thing you found it. I went over my bike a few weeks ago. Will go over it again at some point soon.

You're right!  Good lesson for us all.

It's the 1100 passing lamps light bar. The mount where the light and turn signal mounts to is cracked in half. I'd prefer to have it welded then to replace it. Did your weld job come out ok?

So far.  It ain't pretty tho.  The welding process destroyed the chrome and I had to paint the repaired piece to prevent rusting.  Thankfully it totally obscured by the floorboard.  Not sure welding is a visually apealing option for you since it's where it can be seen.  The chrome all around the damaged area has to be ground off for the weld to hold and then has to be protected from corrosion.  You could possibly just replace the bar and re-use the lights?  What kind of bar is it?

It's the chrome bar just under the headlight, completely visible. You're right, it might be better to replace it.
